Reception and Year 1 classes starts at 9 am and runs until 3 pm.

The classes always follows a similar pattern. Every child enjoys the structure and security that this format offers.

  1. The children start their day playing inside or outside (weather dependent) for about forty-five minutes.
  2. Circle time / Self-Registration – this is a time when we take part in a range of activities and talk about our topic.  We all get together to sing and join in with rhymes and action songs before self-registering.
  3. Small Group Work – this is a time when we meet in small group to take part in a wide range of varied topic-based activities eg learning about me, using remote control cars etc.
  4. Snack Time – We all have something healthy to eat and drink.  This is a positive and enjoyable activity, which allows us to teach manners, and develop social and conversational skills.  It also is a time where children get to explore different foods.
  5. Play Time – The children now play in the various areas of the indoor or outdoor classroom (weather dependent).  This is the time that the children try things out, problem solve, practice, experiment and explore.  Staff work alongside children, supporting and encouraging them during their play, being there to share their many experiences.  Staff also work on individual activities and language targets with the children during this time.
  6. Tidy Up Time – We all tidy up the equipment and put things away.
  7. Dinner Time – The children all sit down to have their dinner and a drink.  This is a calm and enriching activity which allows us to teach self-help skills eg hand washing and using cutlery.
